Rashida Tlaib slammed after saying she had only worn a mask since being in front of the camera: “Isn’t it a health issue?”
Representative Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Came under heavy criticism on Wednesday after she was caught on camera claiming she was only wearing a mask at an event because a Republican stalker was present.
The video, posted to Twitter by the Washington Free Beacon, showed the masked “Squad” member mingling with a group of mostly masked people outside. Tlaib briefly left the site behind someone before one of the unmasked people could be heard apologizing for not wearing his mask as he put it on his face.
“I’m wearing it just because I have a Republican tracker,” Tlaib says, laughing and removing his mask from his face while speaking and pointing in the direction of the camera.
Democratic and Republican trackers, usually a campaign-related post, operate in close proximity to opposing candidates and politicians, tracking their every move in the hopes of recording blunders or mistakes that could be used against them politically.

Critics took to social media to detonate Tlaib, with some wondering if she thought the masks were really necessary, and others suggesting that she shouldn’t be wearing them at all if she felt that way.

FreedomWorks, a grassroots organization advocating for smaller government, suggested Tlaib’s statement was proof that “masks are political theater played by leftists.”

Tlaib is not the first Democrat to be criticized for his hypocrisy when it comes to wearing masks to protect himself from the coronavirus. House Speaker Nany Pelosi has been criticized for going without a mask to a fundraiser in California in August, as well as removing her mask for a photo on the House floor in July despite her ardent plea for that people wear masks and for instilling a mandate on members of the House to wear a mask in the chamber of the House.
Over the summer, Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe was seen on an Amtrak train from New York to Washington, DC without a mask despite a mask warrant for passengers on board.
CDC guidelines state that people do not need to wear masks outdoors, except in areas with a high number of coronavirus cases. As part of this, people should consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor locations when in close contact with unvaccinated people.
The guidelines also recommend that fully vaccinated people wear a mask indoors in public places while in an area with a high number of coronavirus cases.

Tlaib’s office did not respond to Fox News’ request for comment on the video.
She also came under criticism in August when she was caught without a mask on a dance floor in Dearborn, Mich., While guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) called for a masking at the interior due to the strong coronavirus number of cases.
